Exceptional accuracy and connectivity from new SERVOPRO Plasma
Crowborough, 7 July 2010 - The new Servomex SERVOPRO Plasma on-line analyser builds on the technology platform of its predecessor to offer new refinements and enhancements for exceptional, accurate measurement of trace nitrogen in argon or helium. read more...Using Servomex’s unique plasma emission detector to provide an accurate, highly stable and reliable measurement, the Plasma can continuously measure Nitrogen in pure Argon for Argon production in cryogenic air separation plants, and can also be configured to measure Nitrogen impurities in pure Helium and Argon for gas bottling applications and specialty gas laboratories.
The Plasma offers users a wide and highly accurate measurement range, with three standard ranges of 0-1ppm, 0-10ppm and 0-100ppm and an automatic ranging feature that changes the measurement parameters for optimal output resolution. Other ranges are available from Servomex on request, with the exceptional sensitivity and accuracy of the Plasma’s measurement capabilities illustrated by a lowest measurement range of just 10ppb resolution/ 2 ppb noise.
A brand new microprocessor platform offers new ethernet and internet connectivity which greatly increases remote communication options when compared to the Plasma’s predecessor, the KA k2001. The Plasma can now be remotely controlled via a network or an internet browser, allowing operators to check all parameters or troubleshoot the unit offsite. The unit can also be calibrated to be manually driven by a remote monitoring system for troubleshooting, with a standard 4-20 mA output included to transmit process values to a remote system. Operational safety is also increased and potential downtime further minimised by new fault alarm and contact alarm systems.
With no moving parts and programmable auto calibration, the Plasma’s maintenance-free design offers exceptional ROI and low cost of ownership for users. Alongside the improved measurement capabilities and communication options, the SERVOPRO Plasma is the ideal analyser for a range of industries and processes including ASU production, Argon purification plants, speciality gas laboratories, process control, chemical plants, gas management systems, welding gas control, Helium liquification plants, truck loading and pure gas bottling.

Servomex Flowcube technology sets new benchmark in flow sensor measurement
Crowborough, UK, 18 June 2010 - Servomex has delivered a benchmark improvement to gas flow measurement and safety with the launch of Flowcube, a brand new sensor technology which integrates into its acclaimed analyser range. read more...Unlike thermal conductivity technologies and rotameters, which can be greatly affected by thermal conductivity changes in the sample gas and density and viscosity changes respectively, Flowcube technology measures the bulk cooling characteristic of the gas. The result is a stable measurement that does not respond predominately to one physical gas characteristic and is more immune to changes in the sample gas mixture. Positioned at the outlet of the measurement cell to guarantee a representative sample is present at all times, the Flowcube sensor ensures maximum measurement certainty and optimum safety to enable users to set user-defined alarm levels with confidence.
Flowcube technology therefore enables operators to implement a preventative rather than reactive agenda for analyser flow control, avoiding costly plant downtime by allowing the scheduling of routine safety checks and sample system maintenance – a particularly useful function where operations are being run with minimum personnel on-site. With no consumable parts, an almost indefinite field service life and no special gases or setup required, Flowcube delivers low cost-of-ownership with just a simple calibration procedure required at a minimum of twelve months. Flowcube is certified intrinsically safe (EEx ia) for use in hazardous areas and with continually flammable gases, and it forms part of the SERVOTOUGH Oxy SIL 2 assessment for use in Safety Integrated Systems.
“Flowcube is a prime example of how Servomex applies our technical and analytical expertise to solving real customer issues,” says Chris Cottrell, Managing Director, Servomex.
“Not only does it address a fundamental customer problem with the previously inflexible flow measurement techniques offered by our industry, but the improved alarm system and system trending measurements offer new and immediate benefits to customer operations.”
Flowcube will be available immediately as an option for the SERVOPRO MultiExact multigas analyser and award-winning SERVOTOUGH Oxy oxygen analyser, with compatibility for other Servomex analysers to follow.

Sinopec ZRCC chooses SERVOTOUGH OxyExact for China POSM project
Crowborough, UK, May 24 2010 - Servomex, the global leader in gas analysis, has been selected by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company (ZRCC) to supply the SERVOTOUGH OxyExact process oxygen analyser to a new POSM production facility in Ningbo, China. read more...Servomex will supply 41 SERVOTOUGH OxyExact units to the POSM facility, a joint venture between ZRCC and Lyondell Chemical Company, which is scheduled to produce an annual capacity of 274,000 metric tons of propylene oxide and 602,000 metric tons of styrene.
In a typical POSM process, ethylbenzene is treated with oxygen to form ethylbenzene hydroperoxide, with hydroperoxide used to oxidize propylene to propylene oxide, and the resulting phenylethanol dehydrated to produce styrene. As a result, precise, accurate and reliable monitoring and control of the oxidation reactions is critical. By utilising Servomex’s unique oxygen paramagnetic cell technology, which delivers a fast, linear, accurate, highly stable and selective response in a non-depleting package, the OxyExact ensures optimum process and safety control within high temperature POSM processes – making it a compelling choice for ZRCC.
Given the volatile, hazardous environment of POSM production, ZRCC also selected the OxyExact on the basis of the analyser’s high-quality, rugged and durable construction. Configurable with either a safe area or zone 1 hazardous area control unit with up to six transmitters, the OxyExact includes three enclosure systems to allow sampling of any flammable gas of up to 100% O2 (oxygen enriched) and high pressures of up to 40psi, making it ideal for use within POSM processes.
Finally ZRCC was impressed by the quality of Servomex’s service offer, which will deliver fast, responsive maintenance and support from Servomex’s Asia Pacific Business Centre team, based in nearby Shanghai.
“Servomex is very pleased to have been chosen by ZRCC to supply the OxyExact to such a high-profile project,” says Frank Zhu, General Manager, Asia Pacific.
“POSM production is a complicated, intricate process that requires the precise monitoring and control of the oxidation process in highly dangerous environments. ZRCC needed to select a resilient and reliable analyser that always gives accurate results in the most difficult conditions – so the OxyExact is precisely the right analyser for their needs.”

Exceptional levels of performance and compliance puts HUMMINGBIRD Paracube at heart of Intermed Inter 7 Plus
Crowborough, UK, 4 May 2010 - Exceptional performance, a non-depleting design and forward-thinking environmental compliance has placed the HUMMINGBIRD Paracube oxygen sensor at the heart of Intermed’s Inter 7 Plus lung ventilator. read more...A neonatal, paediatric and adult lung ventilator that supplies an electronically controlled air and oxygen mixture to patients, the Inter 7 Plus offers advanced mechanical ventilation that combines high flexibility of use with low maintenance and operating costs. As a market leader in Brazil with growing export presence, it was crucial for Intermed that the Inter 7 Plus design should use an oxygen sensor that offered exceptional levels of reliability and accuracy: Paracube not only delivers this via the sensor’s patent Paramagnetic technology, but also eliminates daily calibration due to excellent measurement stability and a non-consumable design which means zero ongoing cost of ownership.
“Sensor capability was obviously crucial to which sensor we would use, as all components for the Inter 7 Plus are selected for optimum performance,” says Lisa Iwata, Marketing Manager, Intermed.
“For the oxygen measurement, HUMMINGBIRD’s paramagnetic sensors offered the accuracy and the fast response that we were looking for.”
The decision to use the Paracube was in keeping with Intermed’s commitment to develop the most sustainable and environmental-friendly design possible, with all stages of the Inter 7 Plus life cycle designed to produce as little waste as possible.
In addition to the non-depleting design, the Paracube offers full ROHS compliance that not only meets many regional legislative requirements, but also insures against costly redesign where compliance is currently non-mandatory but potentially subject to legislative change - therefore securing excellent long-term cost-of-ownership.
“The Paracube’s extended life time and impact to the environment was much better than what we used to have with electrochemical cells, which made it the ideal partner for Intermed to use,” says Lisa Iwata.
“We are delighted to be partners with Intermed and that the Paracube is an integral part of the advanced features offered by the Inter 7 Plus,” says Martin Cox, HUMMINGBIRD sensing technology.
“Intermed’s market-leading reputation demands that they must have complete confidence in the technologies they use, especially in demanding applications like the Inter 7 where performance and reliability is critical, so we know the Paracube will deliver exactly the performance Intermed needs.”

Servomex’s technical expertise recognised with ISA annual award
Crowborough, UK, 5 January 2010 - Servomex’s world-leading expertise in gas analysis has been recognised by the International Society of Automation’s Analytical Division (ISA-AD), following the presentation of a technical paper to the 53rd Analysis Division Symposium in 2009. read more...Servomex was awarded Second Place for Best Technical Paper in the 2009 Gilmer/Thomason/Fowler/Konrad award for “A Comparative Analysis Of The Errors In The Measurement Of Oxygen Between In-situ And Extractive Methods”, presented to the symposium in Houston by David Fahle, VP Hydrocarbon Processing - Americas.
Following the presentation to a peer group of more than 200 professionals working in multiple industries including hydrocarbon processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and power generation, the paper was voted second out of 32 submissions and was invited by ISA-AD to be presented again at the ISA EXPO conference in Houston in October.
Co-authored by Servomex technical experts James Hobby, Ian Gaskin, Richard Kovacich, Martin Lopez and Bahram Alizadeh, the paper reviews the emergence of new techniques for in-situ oxygen measurement that increases the range of methods available to the user, but for which there has previously been limited analysis of the actual errors present for both in-situ and traditional extractive methods.
By exploring the major contributory errors present in both cases, Servomex offers professionals interested in the selection of oxygen analysers a valuable increased understanding of the capabilities of the available techniques – enabling them to make more informed decisions about which methods would be most suitable for their process requirements.
“Congratulations to our technical team, who worked hard to create this authoritative paper that offers real benefit to anyone evaluating the wide range of oxygen analyser techniques now available,” said Chris Cottrell, Managing Director, Servomex.
“The bedrock of our expertise is the high level of dedicated technical and scientific research we undertake, so to have our leading position recognised by an organisation as respected as ISA is an honour.”
The award rounded off a successful year for Servomex which also saw the new SERVOTOUGH Oxy analyser awarded the Gold award in the 2009 Golden Gas awards.
To receive a copy of Servomex’s award-winning technical paper, please contact David Fahle at dfahle@servomex.com.
